1966 FLH Throttle Cable Installation
I posted this on another site but received no replies, so I am trying here:
Installed the original Linkert DC7 on my 66 FLH. I think I have the cable routed correctly and obtained the control cable clip that goes “under the tank” as stated in the parts manual, however the cable section from the clip the the carb is too flexible when actuating the the throttle twist grip to move the throttle plate properly. I know something about how I have this arrangement is wrong. Can anyone with knowledge about the correct way to do this please enlighten me?

You are missing the cable mount on the intake manifold, a crucial part of the puzzle.

Re: 1966 FLH Throttle Cable Installation
I thought something like that was missing but I couldn't find any reference in the parts manual. Do you know where I can find this?
Thanks!
Thanks!

I just checked again and I can find no reference to a cable clip on the intake manifold. I know Tillotson's have the clip but I can't find it anywhere for a Linkert DC7.

Re: 1966 FLH Throttle Cable Installation
Hey gitguy , I feel your pain! I was a bit thrown off for a while trying to mount up my HD2D Tillotson on my 69 FLH. The 58-68 catalog describes bracket 27449-66 for 67 and later. The problem turned out that the wrong drawing was used for this bracket in that parts book. Once I figured that out and determined what the bracket really looked like, and found one, then Robbie straightened me out on how it was to be positioned.
So, later when got around to my 65 Servi, (which uses a DC similar to yours), I found that it uses bracket 27448-57 on the manifold to direct the throttle spiral. The picture of this part in the Servi catalog looked like the picture used the Duoglide catalog for part number 27449-66...
To get the point, I "think" you probably need bracket 27448-57, (which is depicted in the Duoglide catalog as 27449-66).
And it needs clip 9957 to hold the spiral. Hopefully someone with an original 66 can verify.
Here is a photo of this on my Servi :

Re: 1966 FLH Throttle Cable Installation
I should know better by now… the 61-71 parts catalog has a lot of the 58-68 mistakes corrected.
My guess above was correct:

Re: 1966 FLH Throttle Cable Installation
Thanks for the reply! I guess my first step is to get copy of the 61-71 parts catalog. I have the 58-68 version and it does not show this bracket. I just finished a 70 FLH and became quite knowledgeable regarding HD2D carbs and was able to get all the proper brackets and clips and it works like a dream. Now I will search for 27448-57 bracket.

Re: 1966 FLH Throttle Cable Installation
All you need is a chunk of thin steel wrapped around the cable sheath and fastened to the bracket near the carb to retain the cable. look thru your nuts and bolts drawer, you probably have one...

Re: 1966 FLH Throttle Cable Installation
The only place I was able to find 27448-57 was JW Boon who doesn't ship to the US.
But then there was this that might work. You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Re: 1966 FLH Throttle Cable Installation
All you need to do is make a bracket that grabs the cable sheath just before the cable fastens to the linkage. necessity, the mother of invention.

At this point I figured I'd just fabricate one.

Re: 1966 FLH Throttle Cable Installation
Beware: Always strip back the outer sheathing from the coil and clamp directly to the steel coil, as the sheathing is subject to slippage, which is something you will not like.....
