1966-69 Tank Badge white

#1

Post by Mongrel505558 »

I have two original badges for my 68 and the white paint is almost gone from one of them and still there on the other. I'd like to match the flaked one to the intact one, but I don't know what the color is "officially" called, if anything other than just white. I looked at 1-shot web site, and they have "polar white" and "white", but no examples differentiating between the two.

I had always assumed it was originally Birch White, but perhaps not. I can only provide pics of a few more of the same original (but probably yellowed) emblems. I do have a new pair of the Eagle Irons 61771-66TA , and they are a very white white, but the center face isn't brushed like the originals, so I don't consider them a great representation of the emblems.

While we're on the subject, is the black on the badge paint or anodize?

All '63 and later badges are stamped aluminum up to the plastic ones in the late '70s.

There isn't any black remaining on the edge (I assume you mean the rectangular box around the Harley-Davidson lettering). That suggests paint to me.

I assume they are chromed aluminum by the way they are kinked trying to follow the curvature to the tanks. Pretty soft.

Correct.
It will be interesting to see the the new Revival in person:
"this unmistakable silhouette recreates that moment in time with tri-tone paint and period correct badging."
