Late 77 and Up Showa Fork Bushings

#1

Post by Mongrel505558 »

From the parts book and visual inspection of the fork lowers it looks like the bushings are pressed in. There's no separate part numbers for the bushings. Can these be replaced and do they need to be honed? I can't find anyone that sells them. Mine are sloppy. Does that mean I have to replace the whole lower castings to get new bushings? This is from a 1981 FXWG front end.
Thanks

Jim,

today I read this WTB OP post in the classified section and a bell was ringing.
I`m positive to have seen an add by Carl Olson to swap/hone this particular bushings.
New bushings I see all the time but I have no clue how these legs look on the inside.
Showa is very perculiar reg maintenance on their equipment (no matter what bike) but it must doable afterall
BTW the MoCo wanted you to buy new sliders.

Not Showa but might be worth a call.

I will showa you the reason why ...
The motor company bought these furin forks from a furin company, the furin co had parts, the motor company did not have parts.
Here are your options -
1) search internet to see if anyone makes bushings for these forks.
2) pull the bushings, have a machine shop make new bushings.
3) buy lower legs
Investigate and pick the best option.

I don't believe they even have a removable bushing, the tubes run directly in the alloy sliders.

Mine are a little sloppy. I guess I just live with it until they get bad enough to just throw them in the trash.
