Mid '70s radio caddy install
I just got a mid '70s radio caddy to use with my '73 FLH. It has a radio, amp gauge and oil pressure gauge. I am trying to figure out a way to install it on my bat wing fairing. Has anyone done this and what advice can you spare?

Re: Mid '70s radio caddy install
No advice, just my experince.......
I put a shovelhead batwing faring on my 95 Road King many years ago, still on it and looks pretty good. I got the wild idea I needed a radio and found several styles of the old radio caddies, including the original style with speakers, gauges, etc. I worked quite a bit to get the thing to fit, found a good radio and speakers and the end result was a product that truely sucked by mid 2000's standards. Overall, it looked like crap, couldn't get much sound out of it and was always in the way. Its a novelty and not a very good one at that. I wish I'd had put my money into a different rat hole.
That being said on a 70's classic it will problaby look before but perform about the same.

Re: Mid '70s radio caddy install
Probably not much help here but in the early to mid 70's my dad bought an aftermarket fairing and spent some time trying to figure out how to mount it to the 64 FL. It looked pretty cool on there but he was never a fan of the wiring changes/switching needed to operate the OEM front signals (and maybe the headlight) vs the signals encased in the fairing. I don't believe the inside of the fairing provided any upfront bracketing or compartmental options for a radio, etc. but he always figured something like that could be done......just not by him! I still have this crazy thing and sometimes I think about jacking around with it but it's still stored away collecting dust.

Most are mounted on the Batwing upright supports with a couple of "L" brackets and generally with a rubber vibration damper in the mounting.

The rubber isolators they use are very similar to oil tank mounts with a stud on each side.
