1967 FLH turn signal switch

#1

Post by hdmarkus »

Hello community,

due to local regulations I have to retrofit the bike with turn signals. This regulation applies for bikes 1962 up. Now I had a look to the 3 wire handlebar switch and it looks to me that the switch has no neutral position. If I try to bring the switch in the middle position, it will not hold this position. Anyone an idea 💡

Thanks
Markus

Take your switch apart and file a “V” in the pin.

Looking into the parts manual, it shown on page 115, item number 18, part number for the pin is 71859-29.

Then you will have a middle position that the switch will stay in.

I did my switch that way and it works perfect.

Not my idea, Rubone, Robbie passed that tip on here.

Thanks to him for his knowledge and assistance.

George

PS, while I had the switch apart, I took some time cleaning up all of the imperfections that were in the lever, item 14, part number 71843-29.

And I lubrcated the pivot area with a dielectric grease

TÜV in Würzburg thought it was the bees knees.

Hi George,

very good idea. I will try this and will let you know how it works :D I will also renew the complete 1967 wires because the cables have become brittle over the years. But this will be my work in the upcoming winter season.

Thanks and greetings from Staufenberg,
Markus

@hdmarkus
See this post for a picture of 71859-29 which you have, and 71859-38A which is what you need.
