I searched the KB, no go
The factory service manual 78.5 - 84 does not mention this valve or kit
Anyone got an instruction sheet for this kit? Or anyone know where the 3212 set screw is installed in pump body?
26410-82 VALVE KIT, to retrofit earlier pumps with long regulator valve piston, kit consists of:
26400-82 VALVE, oil pump (regulator piston, long)
3212 SET SCREW, 3/8” 16 UNC x ¼” long, hex socket grub screw

Re: shovel oil pump
Have a look at this excerpt from Donny Petersen's Shovelhead book. Looks like the kits on the big auction site come with some kind of instruction sheet.

Re: shovel oil pump
Thanks a lot Guppymech
I had already checked out Petersen, still a bit vague.
That SB helped, I learned that the set-screw is used as a plug so L73-80 pump relief dump oil can be switched from "return dump" to "feed suction dump" as for 81up pumps. (plug the old drilled hole to return, drill new hole to feed suction) Reading between the lines it appears to me that bore for new relief/regulator piston must also be reamed oversize.
I have a few shovel SB, is there a source for all of them as PDF files?
Cheers, Nifty

Re: shovel oil pump
Here's the pdf SB list, there's a tab at the upper right to download the whole thing "export pdf", instructions to do so in the preface info.

Re: shovel oil pump
The mods to the oil pump are all included in the $&$ pumps.
I'm not sure if restricting the oil flow to the crank is all that great of an idea. Remember, the EPA had the Mo Co by the cajones and squeezing, and they needed to come up with some sort of compromises to satisfy that government agency, and not necessarily for the good of the engine. And too, these were stop gap measures until they could get the new Evo engines out there to the public. Also note, the earliest EVOs were Shovelhead cases with an aluminum top end grafted on; if not in fact, at least by design.....
