Before installing the brake shackle, is the backing plate free to rotate when the stub axle is fully tightened?
And we already discussed the difference between 45 and Servi/BT shackles in this thread.

ran out and tightened just the backing plate and stub shaft with no axle. It does rotate, feels a little tight . then itll actually turn the big nut backwards some and its a little looser. How tight should this nut be? I've just been given it a good snug, not cranking it down. Maybe its in the stub shaft set up.

The stub axle should be very tight to the rocker and the backing plate should still freely rotate. The only friction is the cork washer. Are the spring and steel washer assembled correctly?

I believe it is, spun on the drum then washer against the rocker, nut opposite side? I will say it not rotating free if it supposed to be tight tight. As I said Ive just been snugging it figuring the axle nut helps keep it tight. So maybe we just found my issue!!

question, does the spring washer or the drum sleeve butt against the rocker? the washer is all messed . I'm gonna see if I can find something to replace it before buying any. Im gonna clean all the grease circuits in the drum and shackle tommorow and well see :?:

The hardened washer goes against the rocker and the hole fits the threaded portion of the stub axle and abuts the shoulder on it.The spring holds tension against the backing plate which is free to move on the stub axle.

got my spring and washer kit yesterday, got her back together and greased up. I can now push down with brake applied and see it spring. So I'm waiting for the rain to let up to drive her. I believe RUBONE you where correct with the drum. never notice it but that washer was all grooved and bent to shit. The good think I learned a little and fixed other issue with the front end aswell.
Thanks all for the help!!!
