Petcocks

#1

Post by DaveAus »

I have a friend who has a restored 38ULH.

He has repop petcocks on it and they leak all over the place. He's tried lapping them many times and no luck.

Does anyone know who makes a nice quality set that aren't going to leak the moment you put them on?

Thanks
Dave

Dave, lots of people recommend EZTurn Lubricant after lapping with toothpaste. I haven't tried it so don't know for sure.

And apparently Colony make them for AAOK. Supposedly they don't leak.

Carl's Cycle supply sells a PEEK tipped shutoff that does not leak. I have one in my WLA that works perfectly.

The ones made in Poland are the best available to my knowledge. I dont have the contact info but show up on eBay from time to time.I have used 2 sets and both work well with no leaks.

I've seen a few with machined in grooves for o-rings.

So, take it with a grain of salt, but a buddy of mine told me that you need to make a paste of CIGAR ash, and use that as the lapping compound. Cigarette ash is too coarse :) . Also, there is a product out there known as "stopcock" grease, which should help with sealing and ease of operation.
Just some thoughts.

After I generated enough ash to make a paste I was too ripped to do much of anything.
