M88 rebuild?

#1

Post by Diesel10r »

so my m88 was pissing gas, swelled my board mat. Got a rebuild kit j&P, broke 2 brass floats trying to adjust it. I put it down for the night and when I picked it back up tonight I couldnt move the choke. does this piece usually just flop around?? Also who the guy for rebuilds? pretty sure it was just flooding. any advise for this novice would be great

Brass floats don't float, so you need a better option there. The choke shaft should have a ball detent to hold it in place, is the ball and correct spring intact? Your venturi is way out of alignment, it needs to be centered over the main nozzle hole and the nozzle correctly seated. Rebuilds are fairly simple unless you have body damage.

Bin that float and buy yourself a 'Rubber Ducky' ; the only real replacement for the OEM cork float.
Yes; there are people having good experiences with brass floats, but most don't..

That cut in the venturi should be 'on your six' as Robbie explained; it has a small hole so it will be locked by the nozzle.
The lever of the choke has a cam, which is locked by a springed ball.

Thanks for the replies. So the cut is normal? so it supposed to slide in like that and the nozzle holds it in place?

The venturi should fit snug in the carb body with no gaps around it and is located in position by the main nozzle. The notch in an M88 Venturi is an air inlet since the M88 is not externally vented. that was due to the military requirements. The venturi in your pictures does not look like it fits the body. What is the ID of the body? What numbers are stamped on it?
