And the add quoted is for 45 applications, not all Linkert applications.

Of course; we're talking about rebuilding an M88...thus a 45" Harley.
Installing an M88 on a Big Twin is futile; you'll never get power out of that bike..

Yes for my 45" civilian. just picked it up, ran good just dripping fuel. had no bowl gasket so figure I try to rebuild it. I guess I'm to rough for the brass. But I have the float and venturi coming. Im sure I can get it together.

Your not ever going to get a brass float to ever work properly.

I think that OEM cork floats were 3 or 4 grams in weight…….

I had a brass float and the damn thing weighed 13 grams, and the problems I had on my WLA, were enough to piss of the pope.

Just changing the brass float to one of Cottens …. Got rid of the tuning frustrations associated with heavy floats not floating..

Your not going to be disappointed.

I am also using one on my M-74B on my pan engine.

George

P.S. M-88 Linkert’s don’t have a float bowl gasket.

Remove as shown for all SV carburetors, use as shown for all OHV carburetors.

George....
That is quite an eye opener. But so many carburetors have used brass over the years, it makes one wonder.
I replaced the brass floats in my Holley carb with their black plastic foam ones. with decent results. But it also had red rubber umbrella check valve for the accelerator pump which I replaced with vintage steel ball bearing check valve. Sometimes times the new stuff just ain't as good as the older designs....
The bean counters often overrule the engineers.....

quick question, the needle under the plug on this M88. Is there an adjustment? or does it just get snugged and capped? She is running and not leaking fuel. picking up my clutch plates thursday so I wanna adjust it up.

On a stock WLA snugged and capped (it was made like that to keep riders from messing with it in the field). If you need a richer high speed you can adjust it in small increments and then lock it in place with the cap, usually only necessary if other mods have been made, like #6 heads, bigger venturi, etc. Or change the needly for a civilian one and do all the high speed adjustment with it bu plugging the fixed jet hole.

So I think I gotta pull the bowl and check the float again. took her out. got down the road cut out but started back up after stopping. seems I get up to speed and she'll die out.
