Fitting a 1967 to 1972 Wheel to a 1958 FLH ?

#1

Post by Motorcyclemike »

I got a guy that wants to sell me a rim off a 68FL !
Question is : Will this fit my 1958 FLH front or rear with maybe a different axles spacer ?
I don't want to have to change axles or brake backing plate... ect !
Thanks to all that take....Time i advise me.

At the very least you will have to change axles. Mixing and trying to match rear brake parts from different eras is an exercise in futility. It's easier to find the proper hub to begin with....bosheff

Mike,
It won't work. From '67 up the wheel bearings changed completelyand the only way to make it work is with the entire brake assembly, spacers, axle, etc. Lots of expense. And star hub wheels are not too hard to find so don't waste your money and effort on a "Mid Star" as folks call them.

Thanks because he told me LOL.....that IF i bought it....it was a done deal.....No returns !
I think he knew it would not fit with out lots of other internal parts too !
I sure will stick to the roller bearing and with the *star* hub assembly !

You both have sure saved me.....from grief and Money too.
You are greatly appreciated !

Not only that, star hub wheels are a beauty to behold, a '67-'72 mid star just doesn't compare
