Do all these hubs wear this bad?

Do all these hubs wear this bad?
I have three older style wheels ,they all have wear the brake drun side of the hub,lots of wear ..Being the drum bolts to the wheel I don't see how there would be movement . If the wheel studs were loose ( on all three) I'd think it would be obvious while riding.. I attached a pic of the worn hub.

I wonder if that wouldn't be caused by the brake shoe return spring rubbing on it...? That's about all I can think of....

If that was in fact the case, I would think you could hear the grinding when rollin the motorcyle with engine not running. Also it would be evident on the brake return spring....bosheff
