I'm looking at frames, want to replace mine (1950). I came across a 49 frame, which I won't buy but found something interesting.
Axle plates read: XE-6 8 and XE-7 12 > indicating a 1949 frame.
Interestingly it doesn't have the flattened sections at the downtubes for the horn mount > late 48, early 49?
I have read in the Palmer book that the neck casting should start with XE-35F followed by a specific date code.
This frame reads XE-25F, whats going on with this number?

Re: Neck castings early frame
A few die changes were for model changes. like the 41 and 46 frame neck, however most changes were die improvements or repairs.Axle plates read: XE-6 8 and XE-7 12 > indicating a 1949 frame.
The die numbers in Palmers book are from observation and are not comprehensive.
The neck was sand cast, the middle leg shifted. This frame reads XE-25F, whats going on with this number?
