hydra-glide identification
I would like to know when the triple clamp cover changed from plated steel to stainless, and in what year did the raised bosses for the trim appear on the clamp. Thanks

Your left upper tree appears to have been"shaved". This was popular back in the 60s/70s.

Re: hydra-glide identification
It didn't. All the deluxe and utility trim packages had stainless top covers. Utility packages had black painted lower covers, many of which have been plated over the years. But H-D didn't use chrome steel top covers as stock.I would like to know when the triple clamp cover changed from plated steel to stainless,
As VPH-D says, your tree is modified. All of them from day one had bosses for the tins due to the shape of the casting. Without the boss the covers do not fit correctly and will bend when attached.and in what year did the raised bosses for the trim appear on the clamp.
