25279-36 Separator, Breather screen
This is a (poor) picture of part 25279-36 Separator, Breather screen. Is this screen and separator positioned properly in the case?

No, it is upside down. The tin part goes on the bottom with the cutouts facing in, and the entire affair sits below that pipe horizontally in the case.

Robbie, my 48-57 shop manual shows the baffle on top, screen below. Is that a possible print error? Cartoon page 118...Joe

Joe!
The later manual shows it that way as well...
but I have always found them with the screen sprung to hold itself within the metal clip.
The real mystery is its function.
My best guess is that it was a bubble-buster, before modern anti-foam oil additives.
Thus later models omitted them, or so I was told.

Whats-up gents!---About that bafflescreen,---Mine the 58 came from a known HD dealer,About 1975,My dad pulled it out for another Surprise that COTTON-(you-ROCK)---He told me when I asked him,The oil today isnt what it was then & it therefore got left-out when he put her together the 1st. REBUILD!--In addition In the bikes that I have ripped into I have seen them BOTH-WAYS OR MISSING!-(& ALL is fine TODAY!)Hurt nothing.Upon further looking in Factory manual--I have mine back in as ROBBIE SAID-(I got right ).--Its in there & she RUNS WELL NO CHANGE FROM WHEN IT WAS GONE!.However this bubbleizer/atomizer gets ya thinking as COTTON said!--Maybe it was needed because of oil additives or Lack of them at the TIME!---So JOE It runs installed yourway to. Also I seen just a screen 2-times in there jerry-rigged with a paper-clip LIKE piece of springsteel!Ran FINE--But I INSTALLED it LIKE MINE that one was scary!you just see it wrap in between your minds-eye foretold the outcome. That has been my EXP. ON THESE.---RESPECTFULY---Richie.
