Researching for my friend who is redoing his 59 pan (pics posted when i first joined with intro). We need to get the two retaining rings/clips that go on the main shaft. This year requires clips without the ears. Looking for the clip size to see if we can get em at the local hardware store. parts manual doesnt specify size. An issue with using clips from hardware store?
Thanks

Why not use the OEM clips or quality aftermarket pieces? Wouldn't be a bit surprised if they are still available from a franchised dealer....bosheff

Absolutely! The quality of average Hardware store items is far down the scale from engineered OEM parts. The stock clips are designed for a certain level of strength, spring tension, and finish. Hardware store items are not! But if the quality of your machine is ACE Hardware level, by all means use them. Just don't act surprised if they fail.An issue with using clips from hardware store?

If the 59 pump clips are the same as a 50 the od=.475 id=.375 thick=.020
Short cuts like this sometimes end in trouble.
Vtwin, JP and some Harley dealers have these clips.
