1949 Oil Pump

#1

Post by panz4ever »

My 49 oil pump body has two pins on the outside of the body to which the block off plate attaches to. However the pins are too long (by the thickness of an additional plate). There are no matching holes in the oil pump cover. So, can I machine these pins down to the correct size or do I need to machine holes in the pump cover?

And if it is any help, the stock knucklehead oil pumps use similar end cover and pump body with pins.

Panz4ever!

I keep forgetting to look at the shop, but don't the dowel holes go all the way through?

Have you tried pressing them in farther?

If they are bottomed out, then it would be logical to expect dowel holes in the cover; Knuck covers were machined for the governor, and 49's were rough cast in that void, so it may be the cover that should be addressed.
