Oil passage for oiler heads

#1

Post by txpan49 »

Guys, thanks for putting up with this pan newbie. I am going through the engine. 49 Lower, after market cylinders, 64 outside oiler heads. As I removed the heads I checked the oil passage that runs vertical in the cylinder wall and from the top it is unobstructed but when I pulled the cylinders the base gasket completely blocked the return passage into the lower case. Stupid question - that ain't right is it? I know I am running outside oilers but shouldn't the oil be allowed to run back down into the case through the cylinders? I am thinking the previous owner put the wrong base gaskets on maybe.

Thanks,

Russ

hello,
if your cyl. has a hole into the bore at the bott of cyl. it will be okay. it is about 1" up or so, it let the oil drain into the cyl. onto the piston and then back to the bott end. I would run the no hole gaskets as it will be one less place to have a leak(weep) from.
