I want to locate the oil filter on the tool box mount. It's on a 49 EL but has a later tool box mount. My question is, will it hurt anything for the oil to have to travel that far? It's no further than the oil cooler I had on my 54 but it had an S&S oil pump this is a stock pump. I will be running 3/8 I.D. rubber power steering line about 20 inches to and from the filter.
Thanks for the help,
SR

Re: Oil filter location ???
Well, I'm not an expert, but it should work, if the oil pump is good. A filter, when the bike is cold has a bypass. Like you said, a cooler uses that much hose. The only pan I've had personally was a 1965 glide, was in the oil tank. I used a cooler on mine, and I never had a problem with oil pressure. I'm sure you will get the right knowledge from someone on here. Yup, nothing like a panhead. Mike

Re: Oil filter location ???
I've got a 49 with a spin on filter mounted on the left rear of the frame. This set up seems to work OK.
