Original "horse hair" drop in oil filters
Please save me the abuse, but I'm old school, proud of it and plan on dying that way. I still use the original style drop in oil filter elements on my Pan and my 2 Shovels. My friendly neighborhood Harley dealer doesn't carry them anymore and says he can't get them.
Does anybody have a source where I can get the original style?
Thanks.

HDChevroletUSA!
Only young people say "old school": It became pop culture as a hip-hop dance phrase.
OEM "horsehair" filters were fine, but modern productions (like '80s and later) have been known to disintegrate and clog the oil feed with a hairball at the critical pinion shaft bushing.
Good luck young man!

I have two new ones and the one on the left was in the bag with a -53 part number. Anyone know what it's for? Was there another style oil filter?

Thanks Cotton.
With that info, I'll drop the search, and go to the paper retros the aftermarket people have.

Shop for the simple elements, and not the over-priced yuppie models that replace the entire canister, with an extra spring on top.
Mr. Big!
OEM is good, no matter which size, (unless they started re-packaging crap in recent years).

Ah, well there you go. Not sure where it came from. Anyone need it?UPSROD wrote:Mark, the -53 is for in the tank use..K's, Sportsters, some police big twins and 65-82 big twins and FX's.
And I use the modern paper filters in my Pinhead.

I'll take it Mark. It'll work in one of my rides.
