55 Pan Oil problem

My 55 was not returning oil to the oil tank. Upon inspection we found the gear driving the oil pump was sheered. We replaced the pump with an S&S pump and replaced the the gear. The oil pump gear is turning now and there is oil on the in feed side of the pump, but there is still no oil returning to the tank? Anyone got any ideas where I can look next?

I'd be looking for the original pump.

I'm with Cotten. Aftermarket pumps are not automatic replacements, or necessarily better. A stock pump will provide more oil than the engine needs, and scavenge more than it can provide. If your stock pump is not badly scarred, I'd put a new key in it and put it back in service.

I have double checked the oil lines and they appear to be correct. I still have the old oil pump and will check to make sure it is in good working order. Thanks for the comments.

Maybe there is a reason the key sheared, pump bound up or return passage pluged? Mike
