lifters

Post by panhead62 »

Hi All,

I have this lifter Kit in my 62 pan. The bike runs good, starts good. The lifters sound a little loose. I adjust them just like solids but with the spring there is still a little play. I thought I read somewhere to omit the springs. Does anyone have this kit installed? If so how do you adjust them? Has anyone removed the springs and adjusted like normal solids. Thanks in advance for your response.

We used to put a lot of those in in the 70s. Leave the springs out.adjust the pushrods to a tight thumb and finger roll at TDC with the engine dead cold.Kick the engine over 3 or 4 times then recheck the adjustment. When you get tired of those you can buy a set of S&S solid conversions with steel pushrods and inserts that fit tight in the tappets, this will reduce noise considerably.

Thanks Steinauge . Thought I had read somewhere to remove the springs. Will give it a try. Maybe later get the S&S system.
