Just retrieved my stock cylinders from the powdercoater. Next move is to take them to the machinist to get fitted with pistons.
But before I go ahead with that, i want to make sure the heads fit on the cylinders properly. When I place the heads on the cylinders, there is 0 clearance between the head and the cylinder at the gasket surfaces. So far so good; this means that the gasket will be properly compressed.
What about the fit of the lip of the cylinder in the indent in the head? Is there a minimum depth required in that "indent"? I measured mine and one cylinder is 0.210 and the other is 0.220. Is this enough to prevent the piston from hitting the head?
I've attached a picture of the head with the "indent" or counterbore indicate.
Comments? Thoughts?

Re: Head to Cylinder Fit
As long as the counterbore in the head is as deep or deeper than the height of the cylinder spigot you are OK.Measure without the head gasket! IME spigot height runs around 190-200".HTH

Re: Head to Cylinder Fit
The spigot on mine is 0.202" which checks. The gasket thickness (compressed) is 0.030 so i'm thinking it's okay....
