Panhead Cylinders - How Hot Do They Get?

Can somebody take an infrared reading of the cylinders (exterior) at normal operating temperature?

My local powder coater tells me his stuff is only good to 400 degrees....

Did you ever get around to measuring the temp on the jugs?

I guess we could always assume that it would be less than the temp of the heads....

That really confuses me I would think that the front head catching all the wind when riding would be at a lower temp then the rear head sitting behind it :shock:

Wouldn't powdercoating them make them run even hotter than they already do? Why not just paint them instead?

I painted mine. Very carefully. But after just a few months, rust started to show through the paint. I'm thinking that this is why the MoCo powdecoats their modern machines.
