Tappet block gaskets

#1

Post by jarhead »

Going to replace my tappet block gaskets with James gaskets. I see they have two styles. .020 and .031. thick. Does it matter? Or would the .020 be more desireable? Thanks.

I don't think it matters. I use the thick ones.

I think ,one is for alum. tappet blocks and the other is for cast steel , but I could be wrong , I've been wrong before.

I'm with fouthgear on the differance between the two gaskets.
One is for the alumimum block, the other is for the steel.
I think the thick one is for the Alum., thin is for the steel.
And also like fourthgear, I could be wrong

I'd think with a thick gasket it would be easier to crack your tappet block if it is aluminum. Do the thick gaskets compress much? Even the cast blocks have been known to crack on the corners.

I just used the thick gaskets on all aplications.
Never used any type of gasket sealer, and I've never had a leak.
The thiner one are probably the right one for the alumium block,
but like I said before, I wasn't sure.
Isn't it in the old book some place, or in the gasket kit ?
Of all the thing I've lost, I miss my mind the most.
