Convert Pan-Shovel back to pure pan

#1

Post by Jet »

First post, need some help.

I just bought a pan/shovel chopper, 51 lower end, 74 cid.
Seller says its a 74 lower with 80 shovel tops.
I want to get it back to a pan only. I like plumber intakes only.
If I buy STD plumber intake heads, used or repro cylinders, pistons rockers, rocker covers, intake, is that all I need to re-convert back to pan only?
Does converting to shovel permanentely alter the pan bottom, i.e., machining, oil return, etc?
Any help would be appreciated.

I used the plumber STD heads on my 51 , very nice heads... I think the parts you listed are all you would need . the 80 inch top isn`t 80 inch without the 4inch stroke flywheels . check your stroke before getting parts

I've looked at the STD catalog, and it looks like I can skip the cylinders and pistions, as the STD heads allow for installation on shovel barrels.
Anyone know if re-pop rocker assemblies work okay, or are they all Taiwan junk?
I'm getting real sick of V-Twin Mfg. quality. It's real pot metal crap.

Rammy, whatr rocker assys are you refering to? I had my heads re-built this year and they replaced one rocker with a real POS, the arm that pushes the valve down doesn't even lighn up with the valve correctly. I'm lookin' for a better one. So much for Kokesh MC...Mike

:)STD makes real nice stuff, good quality I was going to rebuild my 56 motor, stroke it and go with the shovel barrels, plugs (80")and std heads , but after doing the math I desided it was cost efficent jus to have STD build a new motor, cost a little more but you cant beat their design.....Maverick
