Solid lifters to hydraulic
Just had my 62 motor redone and want to get back to the Hyd lifters. It came with solids when I bought it. Is there a source for these parts or do I have to go Epay and hope for the best used?

I take it solids on a performance cam is a no no. I hope it's still has the FLH cam but I didn't do the rebuild and it has what was in it when I bought it. I would like to get it as stock as possible so maybe I should start calling JP cycle for the Hyd. So far I am not happy the way things have been going with the restore. Maybe I need to take a break till the carma changes.

62trvler!
It is not that "solids on a performance cam is a no no",.. in fact most performance cams were designed for solids exclusively.
You do not want to stick hydraulics back in on top of a cam that won't keep them filled at low R's.
You can measure your cam's lobe lift without (much) disassembly by putting a dial indicator upon the tappet.
Hope its somewhere in the .409" to .412 range to indicate something reasonably stock.
There are some aftermarket cams that will run hydraulics with a higher lift, so if you find a higher lift, you must pull the cam for identification.

(And no matter what you are told, an Andrews "A" will not keep hydraulics filled on an otherwise stock Panhead motor.)

Cotton,
Isn't .412 the lift at the valve? With a rocker ratio of 1.5:1 that would be about .275 lift at the tappet. Right?

Re: Solid lifters to hydraulic
I'm easily confused, especially since it been a few years, but those were always the numbers I looked for when the cam was between centers on the lathe.
It it wasn't already marked, that is.
It will take me a rare free moment to doublecheck my feeble memory at the shop, but that still shouldn't stop 62trvler from measureing his!

Thanks for the info. I now have a reason to order some much needed tools. I won't be near mine until this fall so it will have to wait.
