Guessing a 59 front? Is this a test?

It is a front. The base flange on Panhead and Shovel rears is wide on two sides and wraps around, not just the bump out that is on a front. The half moon cutout for rod clearance always faces the center of the engine, the pushrod clearance in the fins is on the right, the large return oil hole is always on the left and the smaller feed hole on the right. Not hard to distinguish front or rear on Panheads and Shovels..

It appears that the base gasket had been installed incorrectly.
