S&S Super E carb & throttle kit for 1957 Pan

#1

Post by tlgrooms »

Hello all,

I have started putting my Panhead back together this weekend and put the new Super E carb on but am having trouble with the new throttle cables (converting from single to dual S&S).
I've tried to get the metal piece inside the grip apart so I can put it in the new grip but haven't been successful yet. Do these 2 metal pieces inside the old grip come apart or are they made together? I'm talking about the outside piece with a seam down the middle and the inside piece with the guide.

Any help appreciated.....

I don't really have to have the cables inside the handlebars. The problem I am having is after taking the screw out of the old grip (on the end) and then pulling the old grip off. The metal piece inside the old grip is too large to go inside the new grip and the new grip is too large to fit on the handle bars without that metal piece.
Hope I am making sense.

Thanks for any help,
Tim

I changed the handlebars to a new one with new grips, that was the easiest way.

What kind of handlebars did you wind up using? (brand)? Are they similar in size and shape to the old ones?

I mounted a super E and went with a single cable. It has plenty of return spring and works just fine. The bike looks cleaner with a single cable I think, and they worked for years before we had safety regs.

I used a normal after market handlebars (1", almost similar to the original one).
