New Start Question on Carb

#1

Post by panz4ever »

I was reading this post from a couple of years back...

https://www.hydra-glide.net/phpBB3/view ... =71&t=4558

I am getting ready to start my 49 EL project. Trying to determine what my initial setting should be. Stock EL, rebuilt crank w/ 30 over pistons, 61 cam and rebuilt M36 Linkert (Thanks Cotten!)

Have the read the manual but somehow 5 turns on low speed seems like way too many turns from bottom.

Panz4ever!

I usually send them (M-36) back at ~1 1/2" turns out on the HS, and 4 turns out on the LS, expecting both needles to be trimmed in upon warm-up and tuning.

But of course every machine will dial in at a different setting. After all, that's why they are adjustable!

Let us know how it goes,

Thanks, when I checked it after mounting that is where they were set, so that is where I will start.

Thanks

With reference to the linked previous thread,

Please note that M-36 did not have a fixed jet, and the HS needle and seat were of a much wider taper, thus the different initial settings from the M-74 and M-74B and M-74B. (Sorry I cannot illustrate the font difference in early and late "B"s at this time.)
