My Linkert got a cold..
Yes, the old Panhead is put together and looking good but she ain't running. With out the air cleaner on she sneezes and detonate trough the M74B. Did run for like 5 sec and died. I have looked in old threads but can not find any thing about this symptom. Is the engine running too lean or could it be the valve on intake side that are open when it should not? Other than that no problems!

Sounds like an intake leak to me. Search the knowledge base, there is a LOT of information on testing it!

Must have a pretty bad intake leak, usually you can get em to run (poorly) with a leak. Easy enough fix usually, if you can pin point the problem.

I guess i have to make a pressure plate after all!
I´m going to check the float before i do anything else.

Harleyman53!
A big cork or #9 rubber stopper with a hole through it works too, if you have strong hands, and somebody on the other side to inspect for bubbles.
And a stopper is the only way to inspect the heads' nipples separately.

Since it won't run at all you should also recheck the points, timing & pushrod adjustments. My 52 is extremely sensitive to anything being even just a little bit off. If everything isn't just right it will spit or just play dead. But when its all set right it fires right up. Fussy old thing but we've been together for 34 years & know each other well.

Re: My Linkert got a cold..
Put the air cleaner back on and try again. The filter and housing increase the resistance to the air flow and this affects the mixture.
If it still don't work, then as mentioned above, look for intake leaks.

Folks,
A motor should never be fired without the aircleaner for safety reasons: It is a "Spark Arrestor".
And it goes without saying that all manifold assemblies should properly be bubbletested any and everytime there is a tuneing complaint.
Why gamble?

Re: My Linkert got a cold..
Well i have to say that i did find what was wrong this time as always! How else can i call my self an engine builder and Panhead pilot.
I lifted up the timer and turned it 1 tooth counter clock wise and god damn it fired right up! Purrs like a kitten. It is easier than you think installing the timer wrong, even when i have done it so many times! big thank´s to ya all. The thread that started all this was The "ignition Problem" thread and this is what it came down to, good ending to!
