Rigid Pan rack fitment

#1

Post by joe9000000 »

I recently aquired on original luggage rack for my rigid '57 Pan (Part no. 53403-52). My fender is original for the bike but has never been drilled to accept the rack or the half-moon saddle bag mounting bracket which shares some of the same holes. I could just offer the rack up to the fender until it looks right but I was wondering does anyone have any info as to where I should drill the four holes? Joe

Yes Panhead man. Nice bike and nice rack. That's exactly what I,m trying to fit. If you could give me the location of that first hole from the fender tailpiece seam and the bottom edge of the fender assuming your fitting is the correct one, I'd be grateful. How much clearance is there between the top of the fender and the rack? Joe

Scaling up factory photos from Bruce's bible which had the half-moon bracket holes pre-drilled I figure the first hole should be one inch from the rear tailpiece seam and one and one quarter inches up from the bottom edge of the fender. The other holes should then be nine and one half inches centre to centre marked with the bike and the rack sitting level. This gives a quarter inch spacing between the topmost part of the fender and the rack. What say you?
