52-57 Luggage rack

#1

Post by Continentalsavoy »

Hello.

Do anybody have some good pictures and/or measurements (the side brackets), for the 52-57 sidemounted luggagerack?

I was thinking about converting a post 58 rack with new brackets or bend the old ones....

Thanks, Jonas

Jonas,
These what you mean? I'd be interested to know what years each of these belong to myself.

kicker,
The one on the right in your photo is the 53403-52 for the 52-57 hardtails, the the one on the left is for the Duo-Glide.

All the top pieces, rails, spacers, etc. are interchangeable.

panhead_kicker: These are the ones I was thinking about!

Would it be possible for you to measure the mounting legs on the right one (hardtail model)?
How far down the mountingholes are from the rails etc.

I got a 58 and up model, and I attend to make it fit my hardtail...

Thanks, Jonas

Oh I forgot, do anybody now where to get the special nuts to mount the rack?

Thanks, Jonas

Thanks for that info but there is one more to add to the mix. It has equal radius bends - front and rear. I was told that it was for the solo seat and the unequal bend model is for a buddy seat set up. Does anybody have the PN for it? I went with the resident experts advice and am now questioning it. But it looked better to me.

Wayne,

The parts book lists the number for the rack as 53403-52 with the with the braces 53417-52 & 53418-52 replaced by 53417-54 & 53418-54. I don't know if that's the different versions or not but I must have the rack that's used with a buddy seat.

I had a rack that looked like the one on the right, but the bends in the arms would not let it match up with the holes on the fender on my '52. I did a little bending with a hydraulic press, and it fits ok now. I think it sits a bit lower to the fender though, than the pic from 55PAN above.
