Battery source for *big* 6V battery, 66002-49AD

Post by 61flh »

Hello,

I just bought a barn fresh 59 panhead that I am going through. It has the side mount oil tank and the battery box is for the 51 AMP hour, 6V battery that was used for the radio equipped bikes. My bike might have been an ex police bike, but I really do not know the history of it.

Does anyone know a source for the battery that I need? I also need the top cover, part number 66376-49 and the left and right tie rods, 66407-48 and 66408-58.

Anyway, if any of you have the parts that I need and want to sell them to me, let me know or if you know where I can NOS (preferably) or a good re-pop.

Thanks,

CJ

I searched for 66002-49 and didn't find any.
If I were in your shoes I would measure the battery compartment and head for Batteries Plus.
If you want some grief buy a chief, if you want some more buy some panheads.

CJ,
Good luck finding one of those "big" 6 volt batteries. In some references they are called an H-4 style battery, used only on the 6 volt bikes equiped with 2-way radio equipment. The spec for the original is actually 45 AMP, not 51, the size of the battery is what will make a difference when trying to fit a replacement to fit into the original battery box.

About the closest modern thing you will find is the Powersonic PS-6360 6 volt 36 amp/hr sealed AGM battery, the connection terminals are radically different than the OEM original but you can adapt something to make them work. They can be disguised to make them work just fine on your old police bike. Do a Google search for the Powersonic number, they are available for around $50 and up.

good luck, keep us posted on your progress.
