Trailer Break-Away Battery for 12 Volt Panhead

While at a bike shop and talking about my 12-volt 2-brush generator on my Pan and the right battery, it was mentioned that a twenty dollar trailer breakaway gel battery works well. We all know of the problem with batteries in the middle of the horse shoe oil tank. Has anyone ever heard of this?
My dilemma was finding the right battery that would work well with my charging system. Following are the specs on the trailer breakaway battery.
What are your thoughts?

it may work. for 20 bucks you won't be out much if it fails. unless it takes out the generator with it.

i think a lot of the people running conversions are using 18 amp hour batteries.

Don't buy a crappy cheap battery made in Taiwan, India or Vietnam. Get the Japanese made Yuasa. I have been running the Yuasa YTZ14S for 3 years now with no problems. Been there done that. I believe Yuasa is also now manufactured in the USA as well. Here is a link I found for the exact battery.

I use 2, 6 amp, 6v batteries in my oil tank.
6n6-3b from Napa auto. going on 3 years now.
First they were used with my 6v 3 brush genny in paralell.
Then when I went to the 12 v system, I just put them in series.
They have worked great. They were just under 11.00 @ at the time I bought them.
I do run my headlight all of the time. I have blinkers and my rear blinkers also serve as brake lights along with the factory toumbstone.
The blinkers are also running lights when the head light id on.

Dear Mickey,
I dont know what breakaway means but dont forget that batteries get hot in a hot oiltank and trailers dont. Hope it dont pop if it gets too much juice from a regulator someday.
Where do trailer batteries get their juice anyway?

I've been running a $14 gel cell 12V 5AMP Hour battery on my chop for 2 years and it's still going strong. It's charged by a low amp Cycle Electric gen and I run high beams all the time....no other electrics on the bike. I think the breakaway battery would work just fine as long as you aren't charging it with too much amperage which would cause it to overheat and burnup the electrolyte.
