Re: charging 64 pan
64 Pan,
That is the correct way to wire an idiot light for the generator. One side of the light is wired to the ignition so it will get full battery voltage when the ign switch is on, the other side of the light is wired directly to the "A" terminal on the generator (or the "gen" terminal on the regulator). Make sure the light does not contact ANYTHING else!, it should not be grounded or connected to any other part of the circuit.

Re: charging 64 pan
Why not use a volt-meter? If you have voltage from A to ground and nothing from GEN to ground, the polarity is reversed. The same could be done with a test light (A-gnd, GEN-gnd).

You say no power to the generator. Is the idiot light not coming on when you turn on the ignition? When you start the bike and run it is the battery staying charged? Have you checked the bulb to make sure it is not burned out? Have you got it wired properly? Is you testing equipment functioning properly?

Re: charging 64 pan
My suggestion...time to use a volt/ohm meter and do a continuity check. Only a couple of wires coming off the genny. If the wires are good then it is time to pull the genny. If you have a tester then you can go through the tests described in the manual to isolate the problem. If not most starter/generator/alternator shops will do a quick check to see it it is charging properly. Pretty basic system consisting of brushes, armature and field coils.
Do you know how long the genny has been on the bike? Is the bike wire according to the manual or as the result of a re-wire and basic on someone's schematic?

Re: charging 64 pan
Check the "A" terminal. That is the generator. That is where voltage is produced. The GEN terminal is past the reverse current relay, and will show nothing if the generator has reversed polarity. The BAT terminal is past the voltage limiter relay and will show what that is set at.

Re: charging 64 pan
I would check the genny yourself, you never kow...Ive learned the hard way a couple times that things that are "supposed" to work or have been tested by someone else doesnt mean much sometimes..just throwing it out there. hope you get it sorted

"You just got gen"?
Yes, yes. New install, you must polarize the generator! Touch BAT to F.
Job done.

Nope goes to 'A' terminal
