I think it started in 54. 52 & 53 tagged, 54 either way and 55, 56 & 57 should be stamped. I don't have anything factory to back that up. Anybody with super original 54s and 55s to confirm what their bikes have on them? ... Perry

I have a '55 pan that's pretty early, 55FL110X, and it has the model 52 with the tag on. When I freshened up the generator, brushes, painting etc., I decided to put a new tag on, the old one was kind of beat up. When I removed the old tag there was no stamping under there either. My bike is pretty much all original, I even have the 6-bolt heads,covers and D-rings, but since I didn't buy the bike new I can't confirm that it came from the factory with the model 52 gen. with the tag. I am the third owner and the second owner I bought it from said that the bike was all original when he bought it from the original owner.

Bruce - thanks for that data point. So it looks like tags persisted into 55 ... Perry
