Electrical help...I keep blowing fuses

#1

Post by cory »

I took my Pan out for it's maiden road trip. I put on 250 miles and blew the fuse 6 times. It's a '60 engine with a 2 brush genny and a Frank's electric regulator. I have only one fuse right near the battery. Only running a headlight, taillight and a small speedo.
The fuse would pop when coming down from highway speeds to an idle. I checked the wiring harness and it all checks out. I started with a 20 amp and went up to a 30 amp. It didn't seem to make a difference.
Could it be something to do with the regulator?

If you are blowing a 30 amp fuse, you have a big short. Run the bike with lights off to try to isolate the problem. If the fuse doesn't pop, the problem is in the lighting circuit.

Will our generators even put out 30 amps?
