12 Volt Electronic Regulator
My regulator is dying. Anybody know where I can get a replacement? Or a part number?
This is a 12v system with a 65A generator. The genny is good - putting out about 60V at 2500 RPM.
The regulator output to the battery is only 9 volts.
This is a Delco electronic regulator. It's a direct replacement for the mechanical 6 volt relay. See below for a picture of the electronic unit and the 6v mechanical unit it replaces.

Re: 12 Volt Electronic Regulator
Try looking for something like the old Electric Franks regulator. It fits on the end of the generator and really cleans up the whole picture in that area. If you are looking for the OEM look just scour the online parts houses.

Check out the regulator for a Massey Ferguson Tractor D655.

Steve---I recently purchased a Cycle Electrics genny. The 12VD5000/without the ugly cap!--I see that thing up there & if you look close Theres all kinds of sewing going on in there caps that say N-FARRADS/I know what they are ,but all that other shit scares me!/I hear people like them as long as there kept in the windy-spot under the bike & a Good bold Friend also told me to make the lines short!--Mine are 2-inches & mounted to the plate for engine mount. But I gotta say the best thing is how quiet my pan is & im on solids!.I use my shit till You just cant push em no more!--So Im working on fitting a ALT.-inside the OEM genny case.No one will know.I still got to send Andy my 60s-Bosch Reg./Just to have incase! That thing has ALOT of MILES on it!.ANDY its coming /Im just a week or 2 late ALWAYS!.----Respectfully---Richie

Re: 12 Volt Electronic Regulator
Steve,
I run the "Ugly End Cap", "The Low Output" CE Electronic regulator. Been on the bike about 9 years now. My battery, a Yuasa YTZ 14S, is going on 9-10 years now to.

Re: 12 Volt Electronic Regulator
Thanks for all the input guys. I did find a source for replacing the electronic gizmo that fits in the relay cover. Tomsnosparts.com has them in stock.

Re: 12 Volt Electronic Regulator
Why are you running a cutout(or a regulator installed where a cutout would go) on a '65?

Andy,
I think Steve is talking about a 56 with a 12 volt system.
Clean your glasses!

Re: 12 Volt Electronic Regulator
Oh, yeah-I saw "65A" generator and assumed the bike was a '65. But Steve's profile lists a '56....

Re: 12 Volt Electronic Regulator
Sorry to slightly hijack the thread here but I'm in the process of converting my UL to 12 volts.
I will be using the Cycle Electric CE-102L low output regulator ( got the generator, coil etc ) and the only thing I still need is a battery.
I see some folks using a Yuasa 12N5.5 ah lead/acid battery but I'm looking at the alternatives. I see the Yuasa YTZ14S is used by some.
Am I correct in saying this is a gell battery and has to be used on end ? Are there any problems doing this ? ( I'm guessing not )
Are there any other alternatives ? Please bear in mind I'm in England so I need it to be available over here.
Thanks folks.

Andyj,
The Yuasa YTZ series is a gell battery and can be put on its side except for upside down.

Re: 12 Volt Electronic Regulator
Thanks Mark, that's good to know. I'm guessing you must be running one on end on your bike.
If it's lasted that long it seems to be a good chioce.

I'm running the same gen/regulator set up with a small agm.The battery is inside a box made to run the small 12v battery inside the stock oil tank. I think J&P sells them. And it is standing on end after I glued in some cushioning.
The battery I use is from Battery Mart. Motobatt MBTZ7S. 6.5AH 100CCA. $69. Free shipping and you might catch em with 10% off sometimes. First one lasted 4 yrs.
Good Luck, James

Re: 12 Volt Electronic Regulator
Thanks for that James but I think I'll have to find a battery locally because I'm in England.
Nice to know folks are having success with this setup.
I was looking for those battery boxes when I came across this. Great idea and cheap !
