Wire loom capacity

#1

Post by panhead_kicker »

Does anyone have information on wire loom capacity? For instance is 1/4" id loom good for 1 or 2 cotton braided conductors? 5/16" id for three conductors? Etc.
I'll be working with 16 gauge wire.
Thanks!

You can call the folks at RI Wiring. They make braided wire and carry the various size asphalt looms. Also carry copper core braided spark plug wire in a variety of colors and Rajah plug wire ends that work great with copper wire. http://www.riwire.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

With the original fabric covered wiring it was 1/4" = 2 wire, 5/16" = 3 wire, 3/8" = 4 wire. You might be able to ram an additional wire in there if you use smaller gauge or wire with a thinner jacket, but that was the original rule-of-thumb. If you've got Palmers new book, the info is on page 618.
