12v sealed battery
I am going to be switching a '49 FL over to 12v with a cycle electric low voltage generator and need to decide on a battery.
I see that the 12n5-5-3b is used quite a bit with a battery box adapter but what is the latest and greatest in the sealed type batteries that would fit in the horseshoe tank ?
My only local store is a NAPA but Autozone and others are about 100 miles away.
If I could get away from a wet battery it would be nice.

Physically, that casing looks like a replacement for a 65 battery tray. Did you stand it on end?ozwick86 wrote:Yuasa YTZ14S

Yes, stood on its end on some rubber and a piece of wood.
The YTZ has extra plates inside. Cycle Electric recommended this battery to me.

Re: 12v sealed battery
Panhead Kicker, no offence, but many of us here have been there done that with those batterys. They are made in Vietnam, and are inconsistent. Great Plains Cycle, a seller on Ebay usta sell those, there were so many returns and complaints, he stopped selling them. I have never been stranded due to battery failure 'cept when I used one of those. He sent me a replacement and it failed at 40 miles. Never again. Thet was five years ago, I've been back on the old Yuasa lead-acid standard. If you just route the hose properly, you never have to worry about acid damage. The one in my bike now has been there 2 and 1/2 years and holding stong, I'm only changing it out next month because it is that old, they are certainly cheap enough, and no point in stressing the genny with it.panhead_kicker wrote:Might check this out:

Re: 12v sealed battery
V-Twin sells a 12v sealed battery at about $75.00. I've got 2 of them, one has a season on it, the other has two seasons, so far so good. Do not bother with the old 12n5.5 battery, their capacity is too small, and they boil dry easily.

Re: 12v sealed battery
Going on year 4 or 5 now with the three 6 volt emergency light batteries in a gutted 6 volt case. No worries so far. original battery top taped back on and stock battery hold down cover.

Re: 12v sealed battery
I've been using this. 12 amps, and yes, made in Taiwan. Noticeably heavier than those made in China.

Re: 12v sealed battery
No offense taken! I don't have a history with these. I personally have run a nondescript emergency light battery with flimsy little spade terminals, going on 3 years now. Of course I haven't logged more than a couple thousand miles with it either.mr. z wrote:Panhead Kicker, no offence, but many of us here have been there done that with those batterys.
