wire routing

#1

Post by 1951 adam »

where is a good source for oe photos for correct wire routing, most of the photos of bikes have been rewired at some point, and its very difficult to tell what is really the ''correct'' path for the looms. Palmers is very difficult to make out in the photos, as are the service manuals, and the views are very limited. I did take some photos at the HD museum.... but most of those have been restored, and its been pointed out already that there are a lot of discrepencys. Thanks in advance

There are two photos of a 47FL on page 427.
Headlight out right front, taillight out right rear, generator out left front.
A loom comes out left rear, don't know what it is.

On all rigid Big Twin models the wiring follows the same general paths. Generator to dash, up the left front frame leg and held with a clip. Dash to headlight area on right side of steering head with a large "S" shaped loop to clear fork stops and steering lock, held to headstock with clip. Main harness from dash along frame top tube (under seat hinge) to terminals (either individual as early or box as later) through triangular hole in frame formed by seatpost web and taped to top tube by friction tape. Taillight harness along top frame tube at left of oil tank (held with a clip) dropping down behind tank to hole in fender and on to light. Harness from dash/terminals to brake light and oil light switches down seat post to switches, held with clip. wire from timer (behind pushrod tubes) up seat post held with same clip and attached to coil.

This is my point, This differs from the explanation Robbie gave about the loom passing thru the webbing at post support, These are some great shots for reference....but is this correct? or has it been modified over the years?
