signal lights 53 F L
I need a set of bullet lights ( 4) for a correct signal light setup for a 1953 FL . I have the handle bar indicator. Can any one assist and or provide direction. I have been pursuing E Bay as well. Thanks in advance

They were an accessory that I believe became available in 50.

Re: signal lights 53 F L
The kit would have came with 4 Guide ph-7 or dh-49 bullet lamps, a flasher relay, a handlebar harness, and the handlebar indicator.
Fair warning, the oem Guide lamps a pricey!

Let me check my stash Tom and I'll get back to you. I know I have an extra red one, but I can't say for sure on the clear.Cotten wrote:While we are on the topic, Folks,

Re: signal lights 53 F L
I have a question about the wiring for these units. I'm not sure how you would wire this with only the one indicator light and not have the power go thru that light to the other side and causing all four lights to flash.

Re: signal lights 53 F L
The flasher is wired downstream from the switch. The indicator is wired to the uphill side of the flasher before the switch. When the switch is flipped to one side the flasher does what id does, and flashes the current. The indicator blinks and both lights on that branch blink. And the same for the other side!

Re: signal lights 53 F L
Here, You'll have to draw it in your mind for now,
Hot wire to flasher. Wire from flasher to indicator light which is grounded (through handlebar mount), second wire from flasher to handlebar switch. Wire from switch to signal lights, one set on each side, right or left. When switch is activated it flashes either side and the indicator. Flasher must have two outgoing terminals.
Later systems used two indicators. Much easier, but requires drilling holes in back fork panels. Ever wonder why so many are drilled?
Later wiring diagram;

Re: signal lights 53 F L
Robbie,
Was there ever a turn signal switch that the wires were ran inside the handlebars, not with the external wiring?
I have been looking at switch's and they all have the external wires.
I was able to completely repair the handlebars you helped me identify, and was looking at adding turnsignals to the bars.
George

Re: signal lights 53 F L
Robbie will know for sure, but I'm not aware of a Pan having internal wired indicators.
I'd thought of doing this myself on a 45.I was thinking of drilling and tapping the right bar as per the left bar dip switch, and using the indicator switch internals in a dip switch housing.

Re: signal lights 53 F L
The only pans I am aware of having internal wiring were Duo-Glides that came stock with them (part of the "King of the Highway" kit). On the Hydra-Glides they were always an add on so the bars were not drilled for internal wiring. I'll keep looking for an early wiring diagram with the single indicator for you Mike.

Re: signal lights 53 F L
Thanks Robbie, I was trying to visualize the circuit with only two prongs on the flasher, I guess my four ways would work!
