speedo bulb

#1

Post by george48pan »

My pan is a 12V system with a cycletron generator/regulator. I have a #57 bulb in the speedo. I rode approx 630 hwy miles two days ago. The bulb was new when I started. I wasn't riding at night so I don't know when it didn't work. Are there any ideas out there to get longer bulb life?

George,
A GE 25591 (No 57) is a 14 volt 3 watt bulb, it should last forever in a good 12 volt system. It might be possible that your regulator is not keeping the voltage where it belongs, 14 volt output is OK in a 12 volt charging system, until the battery reaches full charge, then the regulator should kick in and throttle it back a bit. What are the rest of the lights doing? Are you having early failure in the tail light bulb as well? How many of those No 57's have you burned up?

I have no problem with tail light or head light and spots. I only have one dash light... for the speedo.
I have to try and figure out how to post a picture.

the bulb is not burnt. The filament is broken.

The spots operate only when I am running and NEED them. The kill switch on the right hand grip operates a relay for the spots. The head light is a newer style. I hope the pictures load.
