Will it Fit

#1

Post by Johnno »

Hi Guys
I have a stock 49 Pan in need of an engine overhaul. I don't want to lose summer riding so a buddy with a spare Pan/Shovel motor has offered me the use of this motor while I have mine rebuilt (as funds become available). My question is will it fit into a standard frame? I realise the exhausts will need to be changed, anything else? Thanks in advance as I'm sure plenty of you will know the answer. Cheers Aussie Johnno

Shovel tops on a pan bottom or shovel top with shovel bottom be it 66-69 shovel or 70-84 shovel will infact fit in any pan frame (48-65) without altering the seat post....bosheff

As Bosheff said, ANY shovel fits. And any other H-D big twin up to Evos fits, be it a big Flathead, a Knuckle , a Pan, or a Shovel. Pans or Shovels won't fit a Knuckle frame without mods, but will fit any Pan frame.
And Kitabel has plenty to offer, but he does not suffer fools gladly, and in his mind everyone except him is a fool. So take it as you will!

Hi Thanks to all who posted a reply. It's a 51 bottom end with shovel top end. I wasn't sure if it makes them a taller unit & therefore not fit. I had also heard somewhere it may hit seat post. Obviously I don't want to modify an original frame for a few months riding. Thanks Again Aussie Johnno

There is nothing wrong with someone asking whether or not an engine with a Shovel top end would fit into a standard Pan frame.

And if you cast your mind back far enough, you will find that there was a time in your life when you, too, did not know if such an engine would fit into such a frame.
