You can run 74" barrels on a 61" bottom end. It used to be quite popular many years ago giving you a "square" motor, that is, a 3 1/2 inch stroke and a 3 1/2 bore (with a .60" overbore). The problem is you will have very low compression with a FLH piston. I put a 74" top end on a '36 knuckle back in the early seventies and used some 12:1 pistons I got from MC supply. With the lightning cam, big port 74" heads and an M74-B, that was a very quick bike.

It also could have 74 flywheels in it along with the cylinders which makes it a regular 74. it is a straight interchange. I also have built 68ci engines. I think they run great! I shortened the cylinders to match the compression, as I remember it is about .090.
