Steel Gas lines - Rubber Seals
Anybody have a good source for the rubber seals that go in the steel gas lines? I'm talking part number 62360-50.

Steve!
I have used the Tedd Cycle V-TWIN offering for many years.
But they must be replaced just as often as most "rubber" parts exposed to modern fuels.

Re: Steel Gas lines - Rubber Seals
Same for me. Just wondering if maybe there was a better solution.
One a slightly different topic, Do you know where I might find some thin i.e. 1/32 PEEK to manufacture replacements for the two brass crush washers (part number 62085-40)?

Peek seals
There may be others supplying Peek
I think Cotten supplies and fits Peek to your
manifold and heads.

Re: Steel Gas lines - Rubber Seals
Jim!
I believe Bruce A. only casts manifold seals from PEEK.
And I could be wrong, but the cost of making molds for each design of seal will probably delay production until long after other seals, and slow market acceptance.
After all, I pioneered the use of PEEK for vintage machines over a decade ago, and it is still far from being the industry standard. Bruce's fine seals would have achieved that but for one major gliche: It takes a perfect manifold.
Not only must the spigots be of exact OEM dimension to provide a tight press-fit, (Some Colony's are not even round or match), any blemishes are imprinted into the plastic, severely diminishing its otherwise "infinite" re-useability. And re-useability is critical when the material is so expensive!
I have machined many different seals around the machine, and although I have focused pretty much upon fuel-related applications, the H-D 'rubber' gasline seal itself hasn't been requested.
Even the petcock seat is still on my R&D bench!
The seal would require a perfect knock-on fit for each gasline, and also an interference taper to be crushed by the hole in the nut, as the nut has no taper. PEEK is not soft; it is compliant only upon stiff fastener pressure. It is its amazing tensile strength that allows it to be used for plumber's manifolds.
The gasline would lose nearly all of the flexibility it enjoys from its rubber mounts.

Re: Steel Gas lines - Rubber Seals
i wonder if someone went to a patient napa counter man and asked to see their selection of viton o rings to see if one (or two stacked) would work.

Re: Steel Gas lines - Rubber Seals
I got my hands on some viton o-rings, 7/16 outside diameter, and even with 3 stacked, the connection was too loose. The seals need to be about 15/32 and about 1/8 thick.
I found that rubber tubing, outside diameter 1/2, cut into 1/8 thick donuts, was just slightly too large to fit the in fitting - it buckled a bit and did not seat properly.

Re: Steel Gas lines - Rubber Seals
I've wanted to change steel lines to modernize and be able to eliminate these tiny little rubber sleeves. I hate to ask this but would modern steel fuel lines and flared connections work from the gas tanks to the linkert?

Re: Steel Gas lines - Rubber Seals
It should. The connection to the right side take is just a flare-fit.

Re: Steel Gas lines - Rubber Seals
kevsett,
actually you would be taking a step backwards going to flared lines! the rubber sealed lines were a later (mid 50's) improvement!
anyone try their harley dealer to see if they had any?
john
ps, the ones i have appear to be plain rubber with a green stripe on them.

Re: Steel Gas lines - Rubber Seals
Never mind the seals-I may be ham-fisted, but I keep cracking the nuts. the ones I have seen are all brass(some are chrome plated).
Anybody know where I can get a steel nut?

Re: Steel Gas lines - Rubber Seals
I picked up some O rings at CAR QUEST and stacked them on the pipe going into the "strainer" on my M74B.
nine months later I have no leakage.
