Hopefully this won't step on anyone's toes, but I think this may help a few folks if they're fighting the dreaded leaking fuel shut-off rod problem, especially if you're using repop tanks (like me). First off, let me tell you what I did do (legitimately) to fix it: replaced replica fuel rod with an original, worked worse than new replica (hanging on to the OEM one in case I can ever afford OEM '49 tanks). Then I bought the alignment tool and realigned the rod per instructions. Plus: turned much easier when I finished. Minus: Still leaked. Then I tried dressing the hole and the end of the rod. Got a little better (reduced to a very slow drip) but could NOT get it to competely shut off. Then I gave up and cheated, and used this guy's service:

He cuts a PEEK tip for your fuel rod which shuts it off competely, and supplies PEEK seals for the bottom of the fuel valve (one above and one below the crossover). Not super cheap with the current exchange rate, but it worked exactly as advertised and now it seals competely (oh, and for the purists, I used the repop fuel rod for the conversion). I have no financial interest in this enterprise, just trying to help out anyone who's having the same problem I was. I know Cotton could do it too, but we're still working on way to clone a few more of him just so he can get more Linkert rebuilds done, let alone blasphem a stock fuel rod...

Kuda!
I can't get the link to open, but anyway,
The PEEK shut-off rod tip was originated by Kyle Oanes of PAC Machine, and I believe also now offered by Carl's Cycle Supply.

I for one don't care if certain details aren't totally original as long as they work.
Thanks for the tip.
