gasoline shut off valve

#1

Post by Zoomin »

I have acquired a set of 1962 gas tanks. It seems I need to chase and clean up the threads for the "Instant Reserve" fuel valve seat where it threads into the bottom of the left tank. Does anybody know what thread size this hole in the tank is and where I could find that size tap or thread chaser?

Zoomin!

The size is 3/4"-20, which is a special thread.

MSC Industrial has taps for about $23.

Correction!

I was wrong again.

It is 3/4"-18.

(I had it confused with the carb bowlstem threads which is also a special thread.)

Sorry.

(Zoomin! If you ordered a 3/4"-20 tap, I can always use another one.. PM me....)

Cotten, I didnt order the tap yet. Thanks for the correction. You had me sold, 3/4-20 sure looked like it would be the right size to me. Those are some really fine threads inside that bung.
