Ralland!

I believe that there are no bad designs of carburetors.
Some are over-complicated, and some are awkward and ugly, but they should all start easily.

If your S&S carburetor is in order, then throwing a Linkert at the problem won't solve much, because it probably isn't the carburetor.
Are you running solids with aluminum pushrods? Are they tight enough?
Are you certain of perfect timing?
Have you pressuretested for vacuum leaks, including the pan cover screws over each intake port?

I have no doubt you will someday desire to run a Linkert anyway, but lets get to the bottom of the problem first.

Aluminum pushrods are a necessary evil that has been discussed many times on this forum.
The great search function tab at the top of the page will find you things like:

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=5947&start=0&hilit=aluminum+pushrod

Or, you may find the Knowledge Base more convenient.

Enjoy!

PS: Do you have a Linkert and manifold handy?
